Let Congress Know How Important Your Health Plan Benefits and Choices Are to You
Why Your action is Important:
- The Medicare Modernization Act of 2003 (MMA) provided important new funding for the Medicare Advantage
program.
- This funding has helped to improve benefits, to reduce the costs for the benefits, to expand physician
and hospital choices for members of Medicare health plans.
- As Congress reviews the entire federal budget for ways to reduce federal spending, several aspects of
Medicare may come under review.
- Congress needs to hear a clear message from Medicare Advantage enrollees - like you - about the value
of their private health plan choices and the need for Congress to continue supporting these options.
Here are a Few Steps You Can Take Right Now to Ensure Congress Hears Your Message:
Points You May Want to Include in Your Letters and Phone Calls:
- Please let your members of Congress know about any coverage improvements you are receiving through your
Medicare Advantage health plan - better benefits, lower premiums, reduced co-pays, etc. - because of the
2003 Medicare law.
- Tell them about specific reasons your Medicare Advantage health plan coverage is important to you
(i.e., health care screenings, lower out-of-pocket costs, disease management programs, etc.).
- Urge them to continue supporting the Medicare Advantage program, which enables health plans to
offer better benefits and lower out-of-pocket costs than traditional Medicare.
What is the Coalition for Medicare Choices?
It is an organization of more than 250,000 current or former members of Medicare health plans. We are
working together to expand health plan choices and protect the progress Congress and the President have
achieved in improving benefits and reducing out-of-pocket costs for health plan members.
